“After listening to all the remaining candidates in the leadership election, and looking at their plans for the party and the country, I have decided to support Boris Johnson MP.
“Boris has the platform and the personality to lead the party, and most importantly the broad support across all areas of society that a new Prime Minister will need to lead.
“In one to one discussions, Boris listened to my plans for North Cornwall and assured me that his programme for the country will support our Cornish towns, rural economy and coastal communities.
“I am very impressed with his recent policy announcements for better broadband and mobile coverage – something that I have consistently lobbied on, and I was very impressed with his support for ensuring a balanced funding formula for Cornish school children – a historical issue which consecutive governments have been unwilling to address.
“Addressing both of these issues will give North Cornwall constituents and businesses opportunities to be the best that they can be, giving our children the best start in life and encouraging business to relocate here and grow.
“On Brexit, Boris has the presence and the leadership qualities to build a coalition inside our party, but also the strength to ensure that we do leave on October 31st if further negotiations with the EU prove fruitless.
“For these reasons and more, I will back Boris to lead the country”
