Scott Mann MP has welcomed new government funding for FOWLC Community Interest Company who will receive £935,00 from the Government’s £150 million Community Ownership Fund.
The Conservative Government’s Community Ownership Fund is allowing community groups in North Cornwall to take ownership of assets and amenities at risk of being lost for example through public sale.
Thanks to this Conservative Government scheme, voluntary and community groups can bid for funding to acquire important assets, including pubs, so they can run them for the benefit of the local community.
This is just the latest round of funding announced by the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities as the Conservative Government continues to deliver on its levelling up agenda, spreading opportunities and prosperity across the country.
Commenting, Scott Mann MP said:
“I am very proud of the way that the community came together to save Wadebridge’s Leisure Centre after it was put at risk by the contract signed under the previous Lib Dem led council administration.
“This is a vital community asset for Wadebridge which has my ongoing support. The £935k package from Government announced today will ensure the viability of the centre for several years, and I thank the Minister for delivering it.
Commenting, the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities Michael Gove said:
“This cash will help to revive the vital community spaces which give people a sense of belonging and allow them to thrive.
“We want people across the country to have great opportunities no matter where they live, and ensuring that they can continue to benefit from treasured local institutions is an important part of this.”
Dehenna Davison Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Levelling Up said:
“I’m really happy to be able to support the community to secure the long term future of the Wadebridge Sports and Leisure Centre. Scott Mann, the local MP, has discussed with me what a vital asset this is, and I am delighted the project will now go ahead.”
Amanda Pennington, Trustee of Friends of Wadebridge Sport and Leisure Centre added:
“Earlier this week The Friends of Wadebridge Sport and Leisure Centre was awarded charitable status. The absolute icing on the cake is the further news that we have been awarded £935,000 from the Community Ownership Fund via the Department for Levelling Up. Massive thanks to Scott Mann MP for his continued support.”
