Scott Mann has welcomed the announcement by Coastline Housing that it has been awarded £20 million to build 500 affordable homes in Cornwall.
The development will take place across Cornwall, with homes for affordable rent and 200 shared ownership homes on a part-buy part-rent arrangement. The money has been awarded by the Home and Communities Agency which is overseen by the Government's Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG).
Scott Mann said:
"I'm pleased to see that the Government's commitment to build more affordable homes is being experienced in Cornwall. Access to affordable housing, either to buy or rent, was one of the biggest issues on the doorstep during the General Election and this will help yet more people in the county to get on the housing ladder."
The scheme also includes a 50-bed extra care scheme to enable older people or those living with a disability to live in a home for longer. This ensures that residents are able to live in self-contained homes however with the assurance of 24/7 on site support if it becomes necessary.
In total, including its own investments, Coastline has committed to building 1,000 affordable homes in Cornwall over the next four years. Coastline says that this will lead to the creation of 900 jobs and add more than £40 million to the Cornish economy.
