Scott Mann joined a group of local young people taking part in the National Citizen Service (NCS) earlier this week to see the projects they were working on and to learn more about the work the NCS do in North Cornwall.
During his visit, Scott met NCS participants in their third week of the programme where two groups of 15 young people were busy planning their volunteer social action projects.
Scott heard first-hand how NCS - the fastest growing youth movement in the UK for a century - is helping to develop participants’ life skills, resilience and wellbeing while boosting community engagement.
Scott Mann said:
“It was a pleasure to meet such an inspiring group of young people and see the great things they have already accomplished on programme. I look forward to hearing all about their achievements over the remainder of their time on NCS and the positive impact their social action has on the local community.”
NCS is a flagship government initiative that provides young people aged 15-17 the chance to take on new challenges, experience exciting activities, make long-lasting friendships and develop vital skills that will support them later in life. It was launched to tackle three core issues of importance to society: social cohesion, social mobility and social engagement.
Sam Daymond, Schools Engagement & Graduate Manager at NCS Trust said:
“The young people were thrilled to meet Scott. We’re delighted that he found the time to come and visit the programme and see firsthand the impact NCS is having by building bridges across social divides and ladders to opportunity. He was a great sport and even ate a whole lemon as part of one of the groups lemon challenge raising awareness for the homeless. This is to empathise with those who don’t always have a choice of what they can eat.”
Over 400,000 young people have completed the NCS programme to date, giving up an incredible 11.7 million hours to social action projects since NCS started.
There are still places available for 15-17 years to take part. To sign up, go to www.ncsyes.co.uk.
