Scott Mann has been re-elected as Member of Parliament for North Cornwall after a general election on Thursday, 12th December, seeing him win the seat in record-breaking fashion.
The election saw Scott winning the seat for the third time in four and a half years, with previous victories in May 2015 and June 2017. The other five seats in Cornwall also elected Conservative MPs for the third consecutive time.
Scott secured a record-breaking re-election by attracting the most votes, the biggest share of the vote and the biggest majority in the constituency's history.
After being declared the Member of Parliament at the official election count in Bodmin, Scott said:
"I feel very vindicated this evening for supporting the Brexit referendum and for voting to leave and for supporting Boris Johnson.
“From my point of view, I think that the people of North Cornwall have had their say again and it’s time for us to get on with delivering Brexit in January and bring the country forward.
"I want to thank all those who have put their faith in me at the ballot box, the many people who have sent messages of support in the past few weeks and my brilliant campaign team who have supported me every day for the past five weeks."
From a turnout of 51,678 people (73.9%), Scott received 30,671 votes - up by 4,836 from 2017 - giving him a 59.4% share of the vote - up by 8.6 percentage points from 2017. With his closest opponent getting only 15,919 votes, Scott secured a majority of 14,752 - more than double his majority in 2017.
Since his intitial election in 2015, Scott has increased his share of the vote from 45% to 59.4% (+14.4) and his majority from 6,621 to 14,752 (+8,131). His total number of votes has risen from 21,689 to 30,671.
Scott will now travel to Westminster to be sworn in as North Cornwall's MP, proceeded by the State Opening of Parliament and the Queen's Speech which will lay out the government's agenda for the next 12 months.
