Scott Mann has endorsed a local charity in St Minver which is trying to save the local Post Office.
The site of the existing community Post Office is due to be sold by the landlord, and local charity The Perceval Institute has stepped forward to open a new branch and has launched the ‘Save our Community Post Office’ appeal.
The Institute is based in the village hall and has agreed to release space so a Post Office can be opened in the building. The move is likely to cost around £20,000 because of required building work.
Scott Mann visited the charity on Saturday, 8th July to speak with representatives and to view the plans for a new Post Office. The charity also kick-started its appeal where it managed to raise £2297.
Commenting on the visit, Scott Mann said:
“I was delighted to see the proposals by The Perceval Institute who are trying to save St Minver Post Office.
“Community Post Offices are vital for small rural communities like St Minver, and that’s why I took this issue to the very top at Prime Minister’s Questions recently. I am also in contact with Post Office HQ to discuss the transfer of branches in North Cornwall including St Minver.
“The Perceval Institute has my full support and I hope they and the people of St Minver are successful in saving their local Post Office.”
Committee Chairman Andrew Millington said:
“We had an amazing morning on Saturday with an incredible response and generous support from the community in helping to kick-start our appeal.
“We raised £2297 and it was a real bonus to receive Scott Mann’s support and interest.”
