It was a pleasure to invite Patrick McLoughlin, the Secretary of State for Transport, to North Cornwall this afternoon. Meeting with, and congratulating Mick Martin, Chairman of the A30 Action Group, we were able to point out to the Secretary why this much needed upgrade to the A30 will benefit both the tourist and business economy in the local area.
Mick has campaigned for many years to secure funding for this upgrade, and has worked with MPs and Councillors of all parties in Cornwall. Since 2010 all six Cornish MPs have been a part of the Coalition Government, and working together in supporting this upgrade it demonstrates that the Coalition has brought many benefits to the county.
I was also able to discuss the £3 million cycle network with the Secretary, which was recently announced as part of the Bodmin Growth Deal. This will link three tourist sites on the edge of town to the town centre.
