Scott Mann has welcomed the announcement by the Chancellor Philip Hammond that more EU-funded projects will be protected after Britain leaves the European Union.
Speaking at the Conservative Party Conference in Birmingham, the Chancellor said that multi-year EU-funded projects will conttinue to receive central government funding after the UK leaves the EU if they offer value for money to the taxpayer.
In the summer Philip Hammond also announced that all projects which are signed off by this year's Autumn Statement would be gauranteed funding whether the UK is in or out of the EU.
Speaking before Conservative Party members, the Chancellor said:
"I've already guaranteed the funding for projects signed prior to this year's Autumn Statement.
"I can offer some additional certainty to British businesses and other organisations bidding to receive EU funding while we're still a member.
"The Treasury will offer a guarantee to bidders whose projects meet UK priorities and value for money criteria, that if they secure multi-year EU funding before we exit, we will guarantee those payments after Britain has left the EU."
The Chancellor said he was "protecting British jobs and businesses after Brexit".
Also attending Party Conference, Scott welcomed the news. He said:
"I'm pleased to see that the Chancellor has given more assurances for projects that attract EU funding.
"Not only will projects which are signed off by November's Autumn Statement be guaranteed funding, but other multi-year projects will also be prioritised for funding after we have left the EU.
"Until we actually leave the EU, it's important that we continue to receive funding for projects as we are still paying tens of billions of pounds in membership.
"In the long term, I want to see a new form of regional funding implemented so we can continue to invest British taxpayers' money solely in British projects, rather than the current situationwhere we are only getting half of our membership fee back.
"I'm therefore very pleased that projects which have a multi-year deal will be given central government funding even after we've left the EU."
