North Cornwall MP Scott Mann has welcomed the news that the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust, which runs the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro, is to get £1 million in extra funding to help maintain A&E targets.
The cash boost was announced by the Department for Health as part of a £100 million A&E capital funding programme. The announcement today saw nearly £56 million being dished out to 70 NHS hospitals.
The funding will be used by hospitals to meet the 95% standard of admitting, transferring, or discharging patients within 4 hours by ensuring patients are treated in the most appropriate setting.
Scott Mann said:
“As promised by the Chancellor in the Spring Budget, hospitals would receive £100 million to improve their A&E departments so patients can be helped quicker and more effectively.
“I’m delighted that RCHT will get this £1 million boost. It is no secret that A&E departments have felt pressure in recent months, particularly during the winter, and this cash boost shows that the Government has the money and the will to improve our frontline A&E services on topof the record funding that our NHS is getting.
“Our NHS staff do fabulous work for us in Cornwall and I look forward to seeing how this £1 million helps them to treat patients quicker in the county.”
The plans outlined by trusts include primary care streaming and co-locating GP practices within A&E departments to ensure patients are treated in the most appropriate setting.
Trusts in Devon also saw funding boosts, including nearly £900,000 for Torbay and South Devon, £430,000 for Royal Devon and Exeter, £1m for Plymouth and £1m for North Devon.
