Scott Mann has welcomed news that Cornwall is to receive £5 million from the Department for Transport for essential road maintenance.
In all, nineteen projects in the UK have been awarded a total of £75 million under the Highways Maintenance Challenge Fund.
The announcement comes after Cornwall was awarded £26 million earlier this year for road maintenance, improvements and fixing potholes.
Scott Mann said:
“The Government continues to invest large sums of money in Cornwall which I hugely welcome.
“The county has a huge rural road network which endures a lot of adverse weather and handles a lot of tourist and heavy goods traffic, which means maintenance is essential.
“On top of the £26 million awarded to Cornwall this year for maintenance and improvements, this extra £5 million has been awarded for a number of schemes around the county and I look forward to seeing the work take shape in the constituency.”
Cornwall Council has listed the areas it wishes to use this money on, which can be found on its website here. In North Cornwall this includes West Hill and Egloshayle Road in Wadebridge, St Nicholas Street in Bodmin, St Stephens Hill in Launceston and the Whitstone to Bevills Hill section near Bude, among others.
Transport Minister Jesse Norman said:
“We are taking the big decisions for Britain’s future by investing in the infrastructure the country needs and ensuring motorists have the well maintained roads they expect and deserve.
“This investment will enable councils to repair roads and key infrastructure like bridges – boosting reliability on our roads so people can stay connected with family, friends and employment, while also keeping businesses connected with customers.
“Most of the schemes will be delivered within the next 12 months, so many drivers will see an immediate impact.”
