Scott Mann has been appointed as a Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) to Her Majesty’s Treasury as part of the Prime Minister’s government reshuffle.
The role, which is un-paid, requires Scott to assist Treasury ministers in their official duties and act as a channel between them and backbench MPs.
Before the reshuffle, the MP for North Cornwall was PPS at the Department for Transport, assisting the Road, Rail and Maritime ministers.
Scott Mann said:
“I’m very honoured to be appointed as a Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Treasury and I’m excited to start my new role in assisting its ministers with all their financial and fiscal responsibilities.
“I thoroughly enjoyed my time as PPS for the Department for Transport where I helped its ministers deliver policies and projects for the country’s roads and railways, and I will continue to campaign hard on transport issues that are important to the people of North Cornwall, including a bypass for Camelford and rail links via Okehampton.”
Although Scott is PPS to the whole department which is headed by Chancellor of the Exchequer Philip Hammond, his role will mainly involve him assisting the ministerial team who cover various portfolios under the Chancellor. These are the Chief Secretary Liz Truss, the Financial Secretary Mel Stride, the Exchequer Secretary Robert Jenrick and the Economic Secretary John Glen.
Each minister is responsible for different policy areas which cover the various financial aspects of government, and this can often see them taking part in debates in Parliament and answering questions from backbench MPs.
The two main annual events for the Treasury are the Budget in November and the Spring Statement, the latter of which will be taking place on Tuesday, 13 March where the Chancellor will be giving an update on the state of the economy and government spending.
