I was fascinated to hear about the constructive arguments and research that students have participated in at Tregadillet Primary School on my recent visit.
Students from the school had written to me expressing their concerns over the nutritional values on sweet packaging. They identified that although many sweets packages are mainly marketed towards children; the nutritional values represented on the packaging are for adults.
I fully support their case to ensure that children’s values are represented on the packaging so that both children, and parents, are able to identify what the dietary percentage of these sweets are in relation to a child’s daily allowance.
Furthermore I have contacted both Food Standards Agency and DEFRA to relay the students thoughts on the matter and hope to hear from them in the near future.
