Scott Mann has welcomed the news that a programme to restore resilience to North Cornwall's road network has been given the green light, as the Prime Minister announced plans to invest £5 billion in infrastructure to kickstart the country’s economic recovery from coronavirus.
North Cornwall's roads will receive £5 million from the Government, along with £500k of local funding, to proceed with the work. The programme is one of 29 projects in the South West which are receiving a share of £100 million, as part of the Conservative Government’s plans to reignite the local economy, connect communities and speed up the recovery as lockdown eases.
The Conservatives were elected last December on a promise to level up infrastructure across the whole country. Today’s announcement is an important stage in that process and has become even more important following the coronavirus outbreak. Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced a ‘New Deal’ which puts jobs and infrastructure at the centre of the Government’s economic growth strategy.

“I am delighted that North Cornwall will be one of the very first beneficiaries of the Prime Minister’s New Deal for Britain, kickstarting our recovery from coronavirus.
“Upgrading our local roads has been a priority of mine, and it will bring huge benefits to our local area, alleviating traffic problems, reducing congestion, pollution and better connecting our community with the rest of the country.
“Last December I was re-elected on a pledge to continue upgrading North Cornwall's transport infrastructure. I have pushed very hard to make sure we were at the top of the list, and I am very pleased to be able to deliver our fair share of this funding package."
